CHAPTER NINE

Scarlett

It has been two months since I last visited Trina’s house, but she’s been visiting mine on the regular, almost daily actually. But tonight, they are having a house party and she invited me. I almost said I wasn’t going to go but I know her party will be live. Everyone from school said they were going to go so I know it will be crunk.

I have just the right outfit for the party. I have my True Religion skinny jeans, a purple Prada top, some silver Prada sling backs and a pair of diamond earrings. As I am admiring myself in the mirror, my mom walks by.

“Hey honey,” she greets me.

I haven’t been seeing my mom or my dad on the regular because they have been working too hard. My mom is trying to get her practice off the ground in the Los Angeles area. It isn’t like living in our old city. In our old city, my mom had clients from word of mouth. Out here, she has to build her clientele again. If no one knows her, they can’t recommend her to anyone.

“Hey mom,” I say.

“Does these jeans make me look fat?” I ask as I turn for her to see my figure.

“No honey. You have a really nice shape in those skinny jeans. You look amazing,” she says.

“Thanks mom,” I say with a huge smile.

“So, what do you have planned for tonight?”

“I’m going to a party at Trina’s house. It’s going to be off the hook,” I say.

“You and Trina have gotten pretty close honey. I’m glad you made a friend,” she says.

“Me too mom. I can’t tell you how happy I am to have her. She’s such a good friend mom and she’s been down for me since day one,” I tell her.

“I know moving here wasn’t easy for you, but I’m glad you didn’t bite and fight us to move here. As you can see, this was the best decision we could have made for our family,” she says.

“I will admit that I wasn’t too keen about moving here, especially during my senior year. But, I do love it here and I’m glad we did move,” I say.

“I’m glad honey,” she says as she reaches for a hug. I give my mom a hug.

“What do you and dad have planned for tonight?”

“Oh, nothing spectacular. We’re just going to chill and watch a movie,” she says.

“Are you going to be spending the night at Trina’s?”

“Yea, I think I will. It’ll probably be late when the party winds down so instead of getting on the road, I’ll just stay over. Why, did you need me to come home?”

“No, I just wanted to know where you were going to be tonight,” she says.

“Okay. How’s your practice coming along?”

“It’s actually coming along pretty good. I know that it’ll take a lil while for people to pass the word along, but I’m sure it’ll happen. I have a lot of faith in my practice,” she says.

“I do too mom.
